Cars, homes and industries upset the balance of sustainability, and the environment is the one to suffer the consequences.

Caring for and protecting the environment is our duty as a society. People, governments and companies should carry out actions aimed at reducing their environmental impact. In this sense, Graphenstone’s lime-based paints help to create healthier indoor and outdoor spaces, fighting air pollution.

Can paint reduce pollution?

The answer is yes. But not just any painting. Due to their natural and ecological composition, Graphenstone’s lime-based products reduce air pollution. And it does so through a material that has been used for hundreds of years and helps to transform homes into eco-friendly places: natural lime.

Unlike ordinary paints, once applied onto the wall, Graphenstone’s paints absorb CO2 through a natural carbonation process. During the drying of the paint, a stoichiometric reaction occurs: the lime reacts with the carbon dioxide in the air, turning into calcium carbonate; that is to say, it becomes limestone again in a process is known as “the lime cycle”.

This CO2 absorption process is mainly concentrated during the first weeks after the application of the paint. However, the reaction is continuous over time, albeit on a smaller scale. This means that Graphenstone lime-based paints never stop absorbing CO2 from the environment and cleaning the air you breathe.

Graphenstone’s CO2 absorption paint

Numerous studies carried out by external laboratories demonstrate the CO2 absorption of our paints and endorse the manufacturer declaration about carbon dioxide absorption.

The Indoor Air Quality Test carried out at the Roberto Gilbert Hospital in Guayaquil (Ecuador) measured the CO2 indices in the boiler room before and after applying our Ecosphere Premium paint.

The results of the test show the considerable reduction in the amount of CO2 in the room. Before painting, the CO2 value was three and a half times higher than the value reported after the paint application, going from 16,830 to 4,809 parts per million. This reduction made it possible to keep air pollution figures within the limits set by the Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHA), which are 5,000 ppm.

Graphenstone’s positive carbon footprint

The very nature of our products helps us to have a positive carbon footprint, the environmental indicator that measures the greenhouse gases emitted by a product, person or organization.

Not only do our products have almost zero carbon footprint, as attested by the study on our Ecosphere Premium, but the combined actions carried out by Graphenstone enable us to reach a positive carbon footprint that ensures the positive impact of our company on the climate and the environment.

In this way, using Graphenstone products helps the planet. And if talking about “stoichiometric reactions” or “air quality tests” is not clear enough, we can summarize it by saying that three 15L buckets of Graphenstone absorb the same amount of CO2 as a fully grown tree in a year.

Thus, you can turn your home into a tree and start creating healthier environments just by painting with Graphenstone.

Pollution in cities is one of the major challenges we face today.
