Heritage. Complete rehabilitation procedure.

Graphenstone. Restored cloister of San Clemente Convent (Seville).

Architectural heritage, which needs to be properly preserved as a common legacy, is made up of the set of representative buildings that show the cultural identity of each place, together with the traditional cities and rural areas that, in their natural or built environment, collaborate in the definition of this set. It is our duty to preserve and enrich the heritage through rehabilitation, restoration and recovery works aimed at revitalizing the assets that make up the heritage, as well as its immediate environment.

Many historical buildings have different deficiencies in their façades due to the course of time or lack of maintenance, so they need to be restored with a complete procedure of action. The pathologies that coatings usually present are: detachment and loss of material; rising damp and presence of salts; cracks and fissures; presence of microorganisms and generalised dirt.

The ideal materials for renovation are those that are compatible with historical construction systems. The use of lime products (used since time immemorial) is recommended: they are natural, breathable and have great properties. The complete procedure recommended by Graphenstone is the following sequence of works:

Graphenstone. Complete rehabilitation procedure.

-Wipe the substrate with a breaking the surface removing the existing deteriorated coating until the original wall is reached. Clean walls with abundant water to eliminate impurities and keep drying at least 24 hours.

-Observe the condition of the wall, if there are areas with presence of salts, apply a layer of Neutralysal Premium and let dry 24 hours.

-In case the support is excessively degraded, consolidate the wall with a 3:1 solution of Minerseal Premium and water. Allow to dry 24 hours.

-Apply NaturMortar Base until approaching the initial volume. The working thickness is 5 to 20 mm, never more than 20 mm per day. At the beginning of drying, leave the pores open to ensure the grip of the finishing mortar. Allow 24-48 hours between layers for larger thickness and for finish rendering.

-Apply a first level layer of MortarFine Premium and then apply second one evenly with a thickness of 2-3 mm approximately. At the beginning of drying, finish smoothing. Allow at least 7 days to ensure the carbonation of the lime mortar before the subsequent application.

-Apply 2 coats of Biosphere Premium diluted with water at 15% by product’s weight for the first coat and 10% for the second one. Wait 4 hours between layers and 24 hours for final drying.
